Asbestos Mesothelioma FAQs

What If I've Been Exposed to Asbestos?
Almost everyone has been
exposed to asbestos to some
degree. Air, water, food, and
many consumer products
may contain small amounts
of asbestos. Asbestos is
released from natural
deposits in the earth and as
a result of deterioration of asbestos products.

Harmful effects generally result from continuous exposure over a long period of time or less frequent, but higher concentration, exposures.

If you suspect you have a significant exposure to asbestos, there are some things you should do:

1. Stop on-going exposures
2. Stop exposure to tobacco smoke
3. Get regular health checkups
4. Get prompt medical attention for any respiratory illness to prevent infections that can attack weakened lungs.

Not all persons exposed to asbestos will develop asbestos-related diseases.
